A woman is bringing Bob Dylan home for Thanksgiving in the hope that he can convince her brother not to go to war in Iraq. She wants to feel a closer connection and bridge the distance between them, but that can’t happen if he’s thousands of miles away on the other side of the world.
Her mother wants to have a Thanksgiving meal without a blowup.
And Bob, well he’s not helping. He’s too busy bumming cigarettes, getting his lip busted, and obsessing over Tootsie Rolls.
Marie-Helene Bertino is a novelist and short story writer. She is the author of three novels, Beautyland, Parakeet,and 2AM at the Cat's Pajamas, and two short story collections, Exit Zero, and Safe as Houses. She has been awarded a Pushcart Prize and an O. Henry Prize for her short stories.
